Mike Pleshar
Owner and Coach
I grew up in Chicago, where my passion for athletics was sparked early on by my dad. Some of my first memories of sport were playing ice hockey in the backyard with my brother, on a rink my dad built each winter. That love for movement and skill development quickly became a lifelong pursuit. While hockey was my main sport, I also played baseball and golf through high school. It was during middle school that I was introduced to strength and conditioning—and I was immediately hooked. I found real enjoyment in learning about training and pushing my physical limits.
After my athletic career, I went through the fire academy and spent two years working as a firefighter/paramedic. Although I valued that experience, I felt a stronger pull toward coaching and helping others transform their lives through fitness.
I began pursuing that passion by earning my CrossFit Level 1 certification and starting to coach group classes. From there, I continued to deepen my knowledge with the OPEX Coaching Certificate Program (CCP), which gave me the tools to deliver truly individualized fitness. I’m constantly seeking out new education in health and wellness to stay current and provide the most effective, evidence-based coaching for my clients.
Over the past 5+ years, I’ve worked as a fitness coach through personal training, CrossFit classes, and remote coaching. My personal and coaching experience includes strength training, running, functional fitness, injury rehabilitation, weight loss, building muscle, and more. No matter the goal, I’m passionate about helping clients find the approach that works best for them.
I moved to Austin a couple of years ago to pursue new opportunities and warmer weather—and it ended up changing my life in more ways than one. While building my career, I met my amazing wife, Katie, and we now live together in Kyle, TX. We love the balance of nature, community, and opportunity the area offers, and it’s been the perfect home base for both life and business. I started Built For You Training to reach more people and deliver highly personalized fitness in the ways I’ve seen work best—whether in-person, remotely, or in-home.
When I’m not coaching or training, you’ll find me hiking, paddle boarding, or playing sports with friends—anything that keeps me moving. I'm here to help you feel stronger, move better, and stay consistent—no matter where you're starting from.
